Matthew Record Memorial Park and Trail

Matthew S Record

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As long as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles. –Anne Frank

Matthew was part of The Progress Center family for many years.  His family, friends and Progress Center family were deeply saddened when he left us.  Matthew’s parents wished to do something in his memory that would brighten the days of those he left behind.  What better way to honor his memory than by creating a park for his friends and others in the community to enjoy.

The Matthew Record Park and Trail at 35 Cottage Street is available for public use after 2:00 p.m. till dusk during the week and on weekends from dawn to dusk.  We welcome families, anyone in need of wheel chair access to enjoy nature, and those who might benefit from the safety and security of traversing a level path to take advantage of the serene nature setting. In addition to being a Certified Wildlife Habitat, you will find a calm setting, picnic tables, benches, a wheel chair accessible swing-glider as well as numerous small garden areas. When fully completed, plant identification signs will be placed to help educate and add value.

The Matthew Record Memorial Park and Trail is partially funded by donations made by family and friends upon Matt’s death in 2006 and by local and regional businesses. Construction was accomplished through donations of time and labor by community volunteers, local businesses, schools, as well as by the individuals supported by The Progress Center and the staff at the Center.

We’re sorry, but we must limit motorized vehicles to wheelchairs and like devices.  Dogs must be leashed at all times; please pick up and properly dispose of their waste.
